The CEO of Gazprom Alexey Miller said he was proud to be included in the new US sanctions and believes that this confirm the correctness of his actions.
“Unless I came across the first list, there were some doubts – maybe something was wrong (with me), but no, they finally turned me in! So we do everything right”, said Alexey Miller.
The head of the Russian bank VTB Andrey Kostin, said that he considers the extension of sanctions as a result of Washington’s misunderstanding of Russian politics.
“I do not see sanctions as personal because I have done nothing wrong with the United States and American interests – I have always tried to engage in good business relations with American banks and investors. I am punished because the US administration views the policy of the Russian government. It’s very sad, it shows a very high level of misunderstanding by the US administration of the intentions of the Russian government”, added Andrey Kostin.
Earlier, the Trump administration issued economic sanctions against dozens of Russian businesses, bureaucrats and billionaires. The Treasury Department unveiled a long sanctions list targeting a Russian bank, a weapons manufacturer, 12 companies, 17 officials and seven oligarchs.
Oleg Deripaska, a metals magnate billionaire, was included on the list, as American officials surfaced claims that he is linked to organized crime.
Other prominent name include billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, head of the Russian conglomerate Renova Group.
