The US President Donald Trump has declared himself a “truly an environmentalist”. However, despite the scientists’ consensus, he says that can not say whether human activity is the cause of climate change.
“I want absolutely clean water, I want the cleanest air as we already have, this has improved in the last year”, said the US President without specifying what data he is referring to. “I am truly an environmentalist. A lot of people smile when they hear that”, added Donald Trump at his visit in Georgia after the crossing of Hurricane Michael.
“There’s something there, there’s no question”, said Donald Trump. “Man-made or not, I mean there’s something there. It’s going back and forth”, added he.
But the President’s insistence that climate change is cyclical – and not caused by man-made greenhouse gases – is at odds with the broad consensus among scientists that the climate change the world is facing is caused by human activity and leading to an irreversible rise in global temperatures.
“I have the cleanest air and I’m going to have the cleanest air, but that doesn’t mean we have to put every one of our businesses out of business”, continued Donald Trump.
In June 2017, Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
According to estimates by Harvard University scientists, the Trump government has repealed or began to repeal 76 laws and the environmental regulation, which effectively rejects the greenhouse gas reduction targets set by its predecessor Barack Obama.
