The historical meeting in Singapore with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un contributed to avoiding a nuclear catastrophe, said the US President Donald Trump.

“I want to thank Chairman Kim for taking the first bold step toward a bright new future for his people. Our unprecedented meeting – the first between an American President and a leader of North Korea – proves that real change is possible!”, wrote Donald Trump in the social media Twitter. “The World has taken a big step back from potential Nuclear catastrophe! No more rocket launches, nuclear testing or research! The hostages are back home with their families. Thank you to Chairman Kim, our day together was historic!”, says another tweet of the US President.

According to the US President, there is no limit to what North Korea can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce and engagement with the rest of the world. He noted that Kim Jong-un has the opportunity to be remembered as the leader who ushered in a glorious new era of security and prosperity for his citizens.

Donald Trump said in an interview that the United States would not conduct joint military exercises with South Korea while North Korea deliberately negotiated its nuclear diasming.

Asked about the visit of Kim Jong-un to the United States, Trump said that at the appropriate time, the North Korean leader “will absolutely come to the White House”.

In another part of the interview, Trump said Kim had “very good personal qualities”.

“He’s fun and very, very clever. He is an excellent negotiator, and we’ve had a great time since the beginning of the Singapore Summit”, said the US President.
